Our History
Employment Matters of South Georgia was founded in 1999 by Chris Kendrick and his wife Stacy. The company originated in Valdosta where the Kendrick's lived and raised their family. Chris became involved in working with individuals with disabilities prior to 1999 and quickly found a passion for the work. While having a heart to serve the community, Chris was also heavily involved in church ministry serving in various roles including Youth Director, Small Group Leader, and Pastor.
Chris' drive and passion to serve quickly took EMSGI outside of Valdosta and into the surrounding areas. EMSGI began offering vocational training in the local schools where EMSGI's teaching and training methods became heralded by teachers and students alike. The training earned a visit to the State Capitol and eventually earned EMSGI the "Provider of the Year" in 2010. EMSGI was able to build several local partnerships and networks with employers that served as opportunities for clients to work and gain experience. Some clients even found a career path and are in management in their respected companies today.
In 2018, Chris Kendrick was connected to Ryan Herrington through a mutual contact. Chris was looking to expand EMSGI and was unsure how or who may be available to help push that forward. In the Spring of 2019, Chris and Ryan formed a partnership after a few meetings that would see Ryan come into the company in a lead role. During Ryan's time in a managerial role for EMSGI, the company expanded outside of Valdosta and into neighboring areas. EMSGI grew to truly cover the entire region of South Georgia, from Columbus and Bainbridge to Dublin and Warner Robins, from Albany and Thomasville to Waycross and Brunswick. Services began to grow in each area and EMSGI became a requested provider from clients and counselors alike.
In September 2021, EMSGI made a transition towards further growth and expansion as Ryan Herrington became the official Owner / Director of the company. With a vision to continue the expansion of the company not only in areas reached, but also in services offered, Ryan aims to make a positive impact in the lives of individuals with disabilities across the entirety of South and Central Georgia.
In June 2024, EMSGI officially became Joshua Tree Service Group to further expand our services offered, as well as our service area, to make a greater impact throughout the state of Georgia.
In February 2026, Joshua Tree Service Group expanded its footprint even further. While continuing to serve over 75% of Georgia’s counties, Joshua Tree became a Community Rehabilitation Provider for the Tennessee Department of Human Services Vocational Rehabilitation Program. Joshua Tree continues to expand throughout Georgia and eastern Tennessee.
